Bioenergy conference in St Petersburg, May 16-17 2006

"Wood-based bioenergy in Russia and in the World".

During May 16-17 an international conference on wood-based bioenergy was held in St Petersburg. About 200 specialists from worldwide took part in a conference which was organized by THE SWEDISH FOREST AGENCY, THE WOOD INDUSTRIES CONFEDERATION OF NORTH-WEST RUSSIA, AND BIOFUEL REGION (SWEDEN) in the framework of the Russian-Swedish cooperation program.

A creation of the State Bioenergy Development Program for the Northwest Russia has been started. The new program will solve social, ecological and economical problems of the region. One of the main goals of the Program is to adopt widely the wood biomass as a sustainable resource for producing energy, transportation fuels, chemicals and other value added products. The first interest is in energy.
