The Wood Industries Confederation of North-West Russia, The Bioenergy International.Russia and Lenexpo are organized a conference on bioenergy and biofuel “The utilization of wood and agricultural waste” on 14th of March 2007 in Lenexpo, St.Petersburg in the framework of The VII International Ecological Forum.

A format of the conference is unique for Russia. It will be discussion among biofuel specialists (producers, scientists and al; interested people).

BIOFUEL IN DENMARK AND GERMANY - OCTOBER 2006

A business-tour on biofuel to Denmark and Germany will take place during the first week of Octoder, 2006.

The Russian delegation of biofuel producers and interested specialists will visit:
- ports in Denmark and Germany,
- pellet plants,
- biofuel boilers and CHP plants,
- two conferences with purchasing companies and producers of biofuel plants in both countries.

Bioenergy conference in St Petersburg, May 16-17 2006

"Wood-based bioenergy in Russia and in the World".

During May 16-17 an international conference on wood-based bioenergy was held in St Petersburg. About 200 specialists from worldwide took part in a conference which was organized by THE SWEDISH FOREST AGENCY, THE WOOD INDUSTRIES CONFEDERATION OF NORTH-WEST RUSSIA, AND BIOFUEL REGION (SWEDEN) in the framework of the Russian-Swedish cooperation program.

..:: Wood Industries Confederation of North-West Russia

The Wood Industries Confederation of Northwest Russia (WIC NWR) consolidates interests of enterprises, unions and associations and those of federal and regional governments active in the Forest Industry of Northwest Russia today. It promotes the development of a sustainable and strong Forest Industry and provides information on relevant topics. Members of the Confederation consist of broadly all types of wood industry related organizations, unions and educational organizations. At present, the Confederation consists of 28 large member-organizations. Moreover, if all consolidated members of the affiliated unions and associations are considered, the Confederation represents approximately 300 organizations in total. The WIC NWR was established in 2002. The Head of the WIC NWR Board is the deputy Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Northwestern Federal District Mrs. Lubov P. Sovershaeva. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the WIC NWR is Mr. Denis L. Sokolov.

Current activities of the WIC NWR:

1. International Activities
- Coordination with international associations. The WIC NWR is member of ICFPA and other international unions. Memorandums of Understating on cooperation are signed with associations and organizations from Europe, Canada, India, and other countries.
- Organization of business trips and official visits for representatives of the Forest Industry of Northwest Russia. Official visits have been organized to China, Canada, Germany, Finland, Austria, etc.

2. Development of legislation and norms
- Development of State programs, laws and standards in the field of forestry, biofuel and bioenergy, wood working and trade, pulp & paper production.
- Experts of the WIC NWR are members of Russian Parliament working groups on forestry and renewable energy laws.
- The State program for bioenergy in Northwest Russia is being developed by the Confederation. The activity is headed by Dr. Olga S. Rakitova.

3. Advocacy of wood industries organizations on international, federal and regional levels
- Worldwide representation of the wood industry of Northwest Russia.
- Lobbying interests with federal and regional governments.
- Fighting illegal logging in Northwest Russia: the WIC NWR is an active participant of the ENA FLEG process.

4. Conference organization
The main activities are related to:
- The ENA FLEG Ministerial Conference;
- The International Forestry Forum in St. Petersburg;
- Pulp & paper conferences;
- Biofuel and bioenergy round tables and seminars;
- Conferences on illegal logging.

5. Consultation activities
- Market research on forest industry related fields.
- Activities, considering the publication of books, hand-books, and guides on wood, forest, pulp & paper, biofuel and other related business topics.
- Assistance in project development, e.g. in finding investors and connecting partners.
- Promotion of new technologies and systems.
